Academic Programs

Florida State's College of Social Work is the oldest and most established social work program in the State of Florida. We have offered a fully-accredited MSW program since 1950, and our bachelor's and doctoral programs were formally approved in 1974. More than 750 students from across the country are enrolled in our programs at all three levels. A recent ranking of Social Work programs places the FSU College of Social Work graduate faculty as the 4th most productive in the country.

Our core curriculum includes the study of human behavior and the social environment, social work methods, social policy, research, and field education. Additionally, content on diversity, social and economic justice, and values and ethics is emphasized throughout the curriculum. We have a wide array of elective courses to allow students to concentrate in special areas of study, such as school social work, health care practice, human sexuality, data management, women's issues, chemical dependency, aging, AIDS, grant-writing, legislative advocacy, and marital and couples counseling.
